PUAFER005 Operate as part of an emergency control organisation
Introduction:
This unit of competency involves the skills and knowledge required to work within the command, control and coordination structure of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO). An ECO’s priority is the safety of facility occupants and visitors during an emergency which means ECO members are responsible for pre-emergency, emergency and post emergency actions. It includes undertaking pre-emergency planning, taking appropriate actions in an emergency and assisting with post emergency activities.
The unit has been developed to cover the facilities as specified in Australian Standard (AS) 3745 and AS4083. For this unit, as covered by AS3745 and/or AS4083, occupants are people attending a facility on a permanent or temporary basis such as an employee, contractor, student or resident, but not a visitor or patient and a facility is a building, structure or workplace that is, or may be, occupied by people (occupants).
All aspects of the unit must be undertaken in accordance with legislative requirements, organisational policies and procedures and accepted safe practices. It applies to members of an ECO who are floor or area wardens and/or wardens or deputy wardens.

Training Program
This Operate as part of an emergency control organisation course is delivered as either
A 5-hour face-to-face training session, plus breaks.
OR
Online pre assessment followed by 3 Hours face to face practical assessment
We offer monthly public attendance Warden courses at our Mayfield West training centre, or we can come to your workplace.
If your organisation is interested in a private / in-house booking to have this course delivered to a group of staff, please contact our head office to discuss booking options. The delivery can be programmed to fit in with your staff and company schedule, at your venue or ours.
Assessment requirements
Physical Requirements:
It is important to note that this course requires a level of physical ability to complete practical assessments. All students are required to carry out scenarios including an mock evacuation of their facility, this may include but is not limited to walking up and down stairs or getting off the floor. If your health or fitness will not allow you to demonstrate this, you will not be awarded a nationally accredited certificate for PUAFER005 Operate as part of an emergency control organisation. We can however issue a non-accredited Record of Attendance certificate for warden.
Language Skills:
All students must be able to demonstrate an accurate verbal report which would be given to emergency services and workplace supervisor.
Language, Literacy & Numeracy requirements
This warden course combines plain English, videos, photos, and questioning to ensure all learners are able to have the best possible chance at comprehending the required knowledge and developing skills that will be needed in an emergency. Identification
All students must bring ID with them to the training course. Photo ID is the minimum requirement (e.g. Drivers Licence, Passport or similar).
Assessment submission process, support and outcomes
Assessment Outcomes: Competent or Not Competent
For any learner who is unable to satisfactorily complete all assessment tasks, the assessor will attempt to make reasonable adjustments to the methods of assessment. If the learner is deemed not competent, they will need to re-sit the training course and additional fees will apply.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Students choosing to undertake RPL will need to be sent an RPL guide for their course.
In order to be eligible for RPL, the student must demonstrate currency in that particular subject. I.e. a student cannot submit evidence from 5 years prior and request it be applied directly to their new competency. They must show how they have since applied those skills and that they are current.
Course completion
Once assessed in all areas of the course and competency demonstrated, learners will be issued a Statement of Attainment for PUAFER005 Operate as part of an emergency control organisation.
This Unit of Competency is Nationally Recognised Training from Public Safety Training Package, Although this course does not have an expiry date, it is recommended that it is updated every 2 years.
